After sleeping on it some, I agree that we did have to see how Renji dealt with the situation, but it was something that didn't require even half an episode. Someone just found themselves faced with the task of dragging things out to full length, so we got an extended resolution and an epilogue.

The epilogue was really a reiteration, the kind of "In conclusion..." block used to pad word count. Everything before is a great show - they just dropped the ball there.

I don't agree that it simply should have ended at 11. 11, to me, did not quite feel like an ending. We had to see, at least, what Renji would do in reaction to Chihiro ripping the pages out.

The ending did feel a little too tidy, though. They basically explained everything and wrapped up everything very neatly, which a show of this sort and this caliber didn't necessarily need. Emotional resolution is actually more important than plot resolution, and it would have been enough to have each of the principals come to some sort of realization (however bitter) about life.

I still think this is a great show, though, either one of the best or even arguably the best and most inventive show of the year.
